No.4 Mk.2 has been accurized even further. That's why I love the M91/30 just as much as the Kar98k, but I love the No.4 Lee Enfield most of all. The method I use in loading my clips just about negates the possibility of rim locks, and considering 7.62x54r is still in widespread service, it's clearly not a particularly detrimental issue. 308, but it's still strong enough to take down moose, as many of my uncles, and both my grandfathers, have done many times, so it's noooot exactly an underpowered cartridge. The only real downside of the No.4 Lee Enfield is it needs a specific tool to disassemble the bolt, and the bolt isn't as strong as a Mosin or Mauser bolt, so can't handle as hot of a load.303 British is about as strong of a round you'll want to use in a Lee bolt, or a moderately loaded. I've loaded an empty Lee Enfield with 2 clips in less than 5 seconds before. The only added steps are removing the clip (tap the top of the empty clip backwards while preparing to prepare the 2nd clip and it'll pop out merrily), and preparing/loading the 2nd clip. You only open the bolt once, you only close the bolt once, and if you grab 2 clips in 1 hand, you only go for ammo once. Maybe even 5 shots in 2 seconds if you REALLY have the rhythm down, but it takes LOTS of practice with snapcaps to achieve that kind of blind rapidfire.Īs for reloading 2 clips, it in fact does not take twice as long to reload as with 1 clip. EASILY get an aimed shot per second within reasonable distance, potentially 3 aimed shots in 2 seconds with the right muscle memory and if it's quite short range, and if you keep your middle finger extended while cycling the bolt as fast as possible, you can potentially rapid fire 2 shots per second. Add onto that a 10 round mag, and clips that can be just as smooth as Mauser clips with the right technique, then you've got, in my opinion, the best basic infantry bolt action rifle you could ever have. Bolt so close to the trigger that you can fire it with your middle finger without letting go of said bolt which DRASTICALLY increases rate of fire. Thicker barrel than Mk.III* Lee Enfield and unlike M91/30 or Kar98k, it's floating. Long radius aperture sights offer better precision and easier follow up shots. 60 degree bolt turn is smoother than 90 degrees. ♥♥♥♥ on close is smoother than ♥♥♥♥ on open. Now there is my most favourite standard issue bolt action rifle, and I personally consider it to be the best, but of course that's not saying either Mosin or Mauser are bad. Ultimately, functionally, there's no MAJOR difference in performance, especially if you compare them to something like a No.4 Lee Enfield. Neither of them need tools to disassemble their bolts. You'd need an unclean or otherwise pretty poor quality Mosin if it's functioning more slowly than a German Mauser. In terms of bolt speed, they're both ♥♥♥♥ on open with 90 degree bolt turn. In terms of accuracy you'd have to go EXTREME distance before you end up with a noticable difference and even then it largely depends on the quality of the Mosin (being made under strenuous circumstances, that's why their quality varies). In terms of sights, they're both short radius notch and post. The only real benefits of the Kar98k are controlled feed (meh.), it's got a roughly 4" shorter barrel making it a little more handy as well as slightly lighter, the trigger is a little better, and the clips are smoother to use in terms of stripping the rounds off and they also eject automatically when closing the bolt.
